There’s malicious message going around suggesting that the Municipality has purchased a vehicle for the Executive Mayor. The car is said to have cost the Municipality over R1 million.
The Municipality is in a process of purchasing a vehicle for the Executive Mayor and the correct price for the identified vehicle is R682 000.00. The process to purchase it is above board and has not been completed yet. The price being used in the message going around is a quote, not an invoice or proof of payment. The budget for the purchase of this vehicle is set at a maximum price of R700 000 which was approved by Council and is in line with the Nation Treasury regulations.
Currently, the Executive Mayor is using her own vehicle to perform her duties after the Municipal vehicle was damaged to a point where it was no longer economical to repair it. The Executive Mayor and the Council are responsible leaders who are all committed to implementing the Financial Recovery Plan of the Municipality.
