There were ugly scenes this morning in front of the Komani Town Hall where Sondlo street residents (Mlungisi T section) gathered to protest against power outages affecting their street. The Executive Mayor (Cllr Luleka Gubula, Chief Whip (Cllr Nombuyiselo Ndlebe) and Ward 12 Councillor (Cllr Bulelani Mgoqi) negotiated with protesters to calm the situation and address matters brought affecting residents.

The area experiences intermittent power outages which are a result of illegal connections. This matter (illegal connections) had been reported by the Ward Councillor and a plan to resolve it was drafted and before implementation, community members of Ward 12 will be informed.

For the Sondlo street electricity problem to be resolved, a temporary connection solution will be implemented this afternoon while the Municipality is currently in a process of acquiring a cable.

The protest action was reported to SAPS who helped in quelling it. Municipal officials will assess the damage caused and appropriate action will thereafter be taken. The Municipality wishes to emphasize that its offices are always accessible for citizens who have grievances. Burning of tyres in front of Municipal offices is not acceptable.
